This year TVYS Symphonic is changing!
Auditions will not be in person this year in order to facilitate time management. Please read through this carefully (link appears on Thursday, August 1st) and follow directions in order to submit your audition.

Those chosen for this year's top program will receive notice by September 30th. If you are not accepted initially, you may re-submit audition recordings for the next event.

We will have 3 Major Events/Concerts for TVYS Symphonic and each one will require a separate registration for participants.
Examine your calendar before submitting your registration. You may participate in one or two or all but each event requires 100% attendance in order to be eligible to perform.

This year’s events are as follows:
1- Veterans Day Concert (rehearsal Saturday Nov 9- concert Monday Nov 11)
2-Spring Masters Festival (rehearsal and concert Saturday, Feb 22)
3- Utah Symphony Youth Symphony Festival (festival performance in Abravanel Hall Monday, February 24) (this is actually the same music performed a few days before and considered part of that event)
4-Composer’s Night (rehearsal and concert Saturday, March 8)

There will not be weekly rehearsals for TVYS this year. Instead we are adopting an Allstate model of rehearsal as follows:
EVENT 1: Veterans Day Concert

  • applicants submit an audition (beginning August 1st 2024)

  • applicants receive notice that they have been accepted into the program (by September 30, 2024)

  • After completing an online (non-refundable) payment of $50 members of the symphony receive a code to access their music for the next concert (upon acceptance into the program- by September 30, 2024)

  • Opening Social and music listening party Friday, October 11 6:00 pm (REQUIRED) Performance pass off measures will be distributed at this time.

  • Optional sectionals rehearsals scheduled by section leaders

  • Super Saturday Masterclasses and Rehearsal for the Veteran’s Day Concert Saturday, November 9th 10 am- 6 pm (bring a lunch, potluck dinner included) (REQUIRED)

  • Participants will pass off the required measures given to them at the listening party in order to perform in the concert. No refunds will be given to those who do not pass off their required music selections. Those who do not pass off their music will be excused at the discretion of the directors from attending masterclasses and rehearsals for the Veteran’s Day Concert Super Saturday

  • Concert for our Veterans Monday, Nov 11, 2024 5 pm. (REQUIRED)

Call time is 4:00 pm- we will rehearse 1 piece with the Tooele Valley Wind Ensemble at this time.

Details for the other events will be announced once approved by the board of directors.

This model requires a higher level of accountability. We will not be teaching you to play notes during rehearsals, you will come to rehearsals prepared with the correct notes and rhythms under your fingers and we will teach you how to make magical music from those notes. If you need extra help mastering the pass off sections you will need to contact your section leader and arrange for a sectional. Section leaders are chosen for their leadership and outstanding technical skills and must be willing to work with section members.

Mrs. S will be available to facilitate sectionals called by section leaders if needed.

Another change to TVYS this year is the emphasis on student leadership.

The Chamber Ensembles will now be student led, director supported.  (To be in a chamber ensemble, students must participate in the larger elite symphony as well. ) Student leaders will set up rehearsal schedules and have autonomy for most decisions about literature, performances and activities. There will be no fee to participate in the ensembles other than costs associated with the activities chosen by students. Ensembles will be organized at our first social but can change throughout the year. Please see our website under the Programs tab to keep up to date with what our chamber ensembles are doing.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony,

With full hearts and deep gratitude, we are writing to inform you that the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony (TVYS) will be closing its doors. While this marks the end of an incredible chapter, it is also a time to reflect on all the joy, growth, and wonderful memories we’ve shared together.

From our humble beginnings in 2019 to the countless rehearsals, performances, and tours, we have been inspired by the passion and talent of our young musicians, the dedication of our amazing coaches and volunteers, and the unwavering support of our community. The TVYS was created with the hope of offering young people in the Tooele Valley a chance to experience the transformative power of music, and we are proud of everything we have accomplished together.

We have celebrated incredible milestones—like our first concert honoring veterans, our successful summer tours, and the formation of our nonprofit organization. Most importantly, we’ve seen our students grow not just as musicians, but as leaders, mentors, and role models. These experiences have brought our community closer together, and we’ve been inspired by the generosity and enthusiasm from all of you.

As we bring the symphony to a close, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has played a part in making this program so special. Your time, talent, donations, and encouragement have meant the world to us. Because of you, our young musicians have had the opportunity to dream big, work hard, and perform at their highest potential.

While our operations are coming to an end, we know that the impact of TVYS will continue to resonate in the lives of all those who were part of this journey. The lessons learned, the friendships made, and the love of music will stay with our musicians as they continue to pursue their passions in the future.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredible support over the years. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved together and are grateful for the opportunity to have served this amazing community through the gift of music.

With heartfelt appreciation,
