Music FUNdamentals Camp

Once a year we get together for a summer Blast of FUN!

Registration for the 2025 Music FUNdamentals Camp will open March 1, 2025

Tentative dates are: June 10-14th 2025

We train our camp counselors in the latest pedagogy research, game theory and child psychology. They bring their A-game (and sometimes water balloons) to pump up the party! Guest artists inspire us in creative workshops and we celebrate the week with a fantastic concert at the end. After the camp we encourage kids to keep practicing their instruments all summer long and we invite our TVYS family to participate in several parades and performances throughout the summer.

We are thankful for the generous support of

Summerhays Music and Excelsior Academy in making this camp possible.

Beginning Strings Level 1 and 2

Summerhayes Music provides instruments for the week of camp to all of our beginners (with an option to rent after the camp is over). We take absolute beginners and teach them how to properly hold and care for their newest passion. Campers learn basic FUNdamentals of creating a beautiful tone and can play a song in our concert by the end of the week.

It takes a lifetime to master playing a string instrument but we can make it super FUN for a week! We introduce young string players to the violin, viola and cello at this camp.

Beginning Percussion Levels 1& 2

Does your darling love to hit things? We have the perfect summer outlet for all their energy- just no promises about how to get them to stop....

We introduce campers to playing the percussion instruments and focus on skills in playing the mallets and snare drum.  They will be able to perform simple cadences and play a song in the final concert by the end of the week.

Small Ensembles:

Jazz Jam
Fiddle Magic
Chamber of Seriously Fun Music

Once students reach an appropriate level of technique, they need a new challenge. Our intermediate groups are for students who have been playing at least 2 years and want to push themselves to a higher level of FUN!

Jazz Jam focuses on improvisation and learning to jam in the 12 bar blues. (instruments are mostly wind and percussionists)

Fiddle Magic explores styles of folk music and fiddling and is geared towards string players.

Chamber of Seriously FUN Music places players together of comparable technique and throws some seriously FUN music their way. (all instruments are included in chamber music)

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony,

With full hearts and deep gratitude, we are writing to inform you that the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony (TVYS) will be closing its doors. While this marks the end of an incredible chapter, it is also a time to reflect on all the joy, growth, and wonderful memories we’ve shared together.

From our humble beginnings in 2019 to the countless rehearsals, performances, and tours, we have been inspired by the passion and talent of our young musicians, the dedication of our amazing coaches and volunteers, and the unwavering support of our community. The TVYS was created with the hope of offering young people in the Tooele Valley a chance to experience the transformative power of music, and we are proud of everything we have accomplished together.

We have celebrated incredible milestones—like our first concert honoring veterans, our successful summer tours, and the formation of our nonprofit organization. Most importantly, we’ve seen our students grow not just as musicians, but as leaders, mentors, and role models. These experiences have brought our community closer together, and we’ve been inspired by the generosity and enthusiasm from all of you.

As we bring the symphony to a close, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has played a part in making this program so special. Your time, talent, donations, and encouragement have meant the world to us. Because of you, our young musicians have had the opportunity to dream big, work hard, and perform at their highest potential.

While our operations are coming to an end, we know that the impact of TVYS will continue to resonate in the lives of all those who were part of this journey. The lessons learned, the friendships made, and the love of music will stay with our musicians as they continue to pursue their passions in the future.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredible support over the years. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved together and are grateful for the opportunity to have served this amazing community through the gift of music.

With heartfelt appreciation,
