The Tooele Valley Youth Symphony

Our flagship premier ensemble, the full symphony

Membership in the symphonic group is by audition only. We accept mature musicians grades 8-12 and challenge them to refine their technique, listening skills, and overall musicianship by making beautiful music together.

We support leadership development in our top students through training, future-teacher education courses and mentorship placements.  Many of our students are on a work-study scholarship to pay for their tuition and provide them practical experience in teaching and coaching young beginners.

Our most recent activities this year have included bringing in a world renown composer, arranger, artist and conductor Deborah Baker Monday to work with our string students. We were thrilled to take our top chamber group to the Utah Symphony Youth Symphony Festival at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City this spring.   We most recently brought in artist and trumpeter Dr. Seretta Hart (president of the Utah Trumpeter's Guild, personnel director for the Utah Symphony) to work with our wind groups during our Music FUNdamentals Camp.  These guest artists are among many that have worked with our students over the years to provide feedback, instruction and inspiration.

Students in our symphonic group have demonstrated mastery in playing their instruments and commit to personal discipline and personal practice outside of our rehearsals.
The full symphony is an auditioned group and students are highly encouraged to engage in performing with their school ensembles in support our our music community.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony,

With full hearts and deep gratitude, we are writing to inform you that the Tooele Valley Youth Symphony (TVYS) will be closing its doors. While this marks the end of an incredible chapter, it is also a time to reflect on all the joy, growth, and wonderful memories we’ve shared together.

From our humble beginnings in 2019 to the countless rehearsals, performances, and tours, we have been inspired by the passion and talent of our young musicians, the dedication of our amazing coaches and volunteers, and the unwavering support of our community. The TVYS was created with the hope of offering young people in the Tooele Valley a chance to experience the transformative power of music, and we are proud of everything we have accomplished together.

We have celebrated incredible milestones—like our first concert honoring veterans, our successful summer tours, and the formation of our nonprofit organization. Most importantly, we’ve seen our students grow not just as musicians, but as leaders, mentors, and role models. These experiences have brought our community closer together, and we’ve been inspired by the generosity and enthusiasm from all of you.

As we bring the symphony to a close, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has played a part in making this program so special. Your time, talent, donations, and encouragement have meant the world to us. Because of you, our young musicians have had the opportunity to dream big, work hard, and perform at their highest potential.

While our operations are coming to an end, we know that the impact of TVYS will continue to resonate in the lives of all those who were part of this journey. The lessons learned, the friendships made, and the love of music will stay with our musicians as they continue to pursue their passions in the future.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your incredible support over the years. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved together and are grateful for the opportunity to have served this amazing community through the gift of music.

With heartfelt appreciation,
